Last Thursday morning ~10:00AM the WOBC transmitter was struck by lightning, and it totally fried all our equipment. Me and Sasha are putting things back together as quickly as we can, but for now people who are off-campus may have trouble accessing the webcast. Also there are no monitors in the station, so instead we left a tiny bedside alarm/radio which is sort of like a monitor + it can create wicked feedback if you leave it on while yr on the microphone.

Jaap Blonk is a Dutch sound artist and composer and just did a live performance on Boston College's college radio station,
WZBC. Most importantly, you can play his Blonk organ
here. Enjoy.

In the interest of keeping things steadily afloat, here's a post about boats!

-A
submarine is a watercraft that can operate underwater at pressures beyond the range of unaided human survivability. The first military submarine was
Turtle (1775), a hand-powered egg-shaped device designed by the American David Bushnell, to accommodate a single man.
-Did you know that most modern
nuclear submarines are still powered by steam turbines, and so are technically "steamboats" just like the one that collided with
Huck's raft in the fog way back in 5th grade?
-The
SS Samson V is the only Canadian steam-powered sternwheeler that has been preserved afloat. It was built in 1937 by the Canadian federal Department of Public Works as a snagboat for clearing logs and debris.
