I just get so excited about ... The Stranglers

I decided that I should really do a series of regular posts about bands that I just get so excited about.

Today:
The Stranglers.

These guys were and are such a big deal.

This is one of their biggest hits:

They started in 1974 in Guilford, Surrey. They would develop into a punk/New Wave/aggressive pop band. In my opinion they are mostly New Wave, but there were undoubtedly many influences. They are a bit nuts, but I have been hooked on them for months. Their songs are catchy, fun, but not sugary. rock rock rock and roll.

Enjoy!

Gorillaz, the epic mix

Gorillaz might be one of the most important pop groups in the history of the universe, or they might be cartoon characters. Either way, they have also released an obscenely large amount of remixes of their work. I've been listening to two epic mixes lately, on repeat, so I thought I'd share them here.

The first is by DFA Records, who release all of your favorite dance records. In this case the DFA remix most likely means it was done by label heads James Murphy (of LCD Soundsystem fame) and Tim Goldsworthy. Whoever it's by, it has the groove that only something made by Murphy can have. Also in typical DFA-remix fashion, it's immensely long, but not remotely boring. Give it a couple of minutes and you will be in the ZONE

Gorillaz - Dare (DFA Remix)

The second is by relative newcomers Quiet Village, who manage to craft psychedelic masterpieces out of all sorts of interesting samples and found sound. This remix starts out even slower than the DFA one, but gets just as intense. It also clocks in at about ten minutes, so grab some popcorn, or dried mangoes and a book or something. It's amazingly well put together though, like most of their stuff - look out for their gorgeous album "Silent Movie" all over on the 28th.

Confession

I am totally smitten with this video. I'll admit it. I'll also admit that I am totally hot for Mr. Ye. What can I say, I love the guys who know that they are hot stuff. Aside from the fact that he can be a bit arrogant, this video is worth watching.
Also RIP Mrs. Wayne.

Unfortunately I cannot embed it because they forbid it... but here is the link.

Seriously, guys.

Bjork's new 3D music video for "Wanderlust" also looks miraculous in 2D!

And here is Ratatat's remix of "Wanderlust."
